Sourcing MFD3/Columbus abroad

Featured Replies

Although I'm sure not the most cost effective way of purchasing a "Skoda Branded" MFD3/Columbus - I'm assuming I could walk into a Skoda dealer and ask them to order me one?

Make sure they get the correct part number and they would be happy to sell it?

The reason I ask.

One of my wife's brothers works and lives in Prague of all places.

He is a translator and speaks fluent English and Czech.

Now I've got no idea of what the economy is like over there or if there is any savings to be had.

But if there is I'd certainly like to investigate this as an option - hay, who knows, if there is money to be saved...possible group buy options :)

Anyway, if I pass all of the information over to my wife's brother and got him to pop into a Skoda main dealer over there is there any reason they won't give him a price on an MFD3?

I'm assuming these units would all be multi-language, so no problem there?

Does anyone happen to know the part number of the MFD3/Columbus for Skoda - as I'd like to give him this detail as well.

All the info you need is alread posted on here in the octy2 forum.

The cost from the dealer either here or in cz will be prohibitive, expect to pay well into 3 figures. I and many others have bought either new or secondhand factory refurb units from ebay where they go for between £600 to about £900 depending on seller and wether the unit is new. All the factory refurb units tend to come from eastern europe as mine did, there is a spanish seller that sells new ones shipped from spain.

Thanks for the reply.

I was just hoping that maybe the cost in CZ might be a little cheaper - more akin to the EBay prices I've been seeing.

With it being a family member I'd obviously have a 100% trusted person to buy and shipping would be as cheap as possible too.

However if dealer prices are probably going to be similar over there to here I'll just have to keep an eye on EBay then :)

they are multi language units I learnt that out when my dealer fitted mine and it confused the hell out of him cos it all came up in czech

Er to get one from Skoda parts UK its £1400 according to my local Skoda dealer for an MFD2 (the MFD3 is not even listed yet) so you may find it hard to get one direct from a dealer.

I think I'll keep an eye on EBay then.

I can get an MFD3 Skoda for £700 right now.

Although the VW versions can go for as low as £500.

I just don't know if I could "cope" with the VW logo at switch on and the red lighting.

Yer I know - cosmetic, but if I'm planning on having the car at least 3 years, more likely 4 then I'm thinking may as well pay the extra for the Skoda unit.

I paid £515 for a new Skoda unit - £580 with UPS shipping so the bargains are out there. Iirc mine didnt have 'columbus' in the auction heading, just 'RNS510' so maybe worth searching for that.

Having had Stu very kindly install it a couple of weekends ago - I can thoroughly recommend it. Great piece of kit.
