Towcar of the year

Featured Replies

May be of interest to anybody who tows - the new 2.0 TDI Superb has just been awarded Towcar of the Year by the Caravan Club.

Full details on the Caravan Club website Towcar of the Year awards

Comes as no surprise to be honest the old Superb was so good at towing it was magic

Just got my Caravan Club magazine and it is worth noting that they tested 3 versions of the new superb: 1.8 TSi, 2.0 TDi and 2.0 TDi DSG. It was very close between the two manual cars - the diesel just edged it. However they found that the gearing of the DSG didn't suit towing too well. They said that the gearbox had a tendency to hunt for the right cog. So that is worth keeping in mind.

It was great to read the very positive general comments about build quality, space and refinement. It looks like Skoda has a winner.

interesting. we are towers and am thinking of getting the 1.8TSi. for most of the year we prefer the DSG box but for towing it looks like the manual will be best (although they didnt test the 7-speed DSG on the petrol). not sure if i want to drive a manual for most of the time just to make towing the caravan a bit easier on the 3/4 weeks hols (which in real terms equates to max 8 journeys with the caravan on per year). i guess the DSG could ust be run in manual mode when towing with the driver making the choice of shich gear to select just as in the manual. i cant see as there is much difference between a DSG in manual mode and a manual except you use your fingers on the paddles and dont have to move your left leg !!

any views / opinions ?

Thats quite good, and iirc the old superb 2.5v6 won that award as well.

Not seen any tv adverts for it yet, I guess they are going down alternative routes, eg caravan club, dealer marketing rather than tv adverts. Quite surprising as many people I've mentioned it too don't know anything about the new car, but those that might buy it know about it. Maybe we'll see something in the new year

The old Superb won in 2004ish

Good to see the new one winning too!

The Octy vRS CR TD DSG got a good write up too.

Thought you would spot that:thumbup:

They only tested 2wd Superbs and made no mention of the 4x4 versions.

I have ordered my Superb to tow my caravan, so it was good to see it in the CC mag. A shame they did not test the Elegance.
