Speakers sound awful on my Octavia vRS!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Girls

I have replaced the Skoda Symphony head and changer for the Kenwood Head KRC-V791 and Changer KDC-C667.

I have not changed any of the speakers.

Frankly the sound quality is appalling except at very low volume. The treble is screechy and harsh and the bass is totally messy. The sound from my MK4 Golf GTI in Standard ICE set-up was fantastic by comparrison.

Can anyone advise if all or any of the standard speakers are rubbish and which if any I should change. Any other tips on ICE. I am virtually unable to listen to the system as it stands.

Thanks a lot

its the tweeters that i felt were the root of the problem simply being over powered by your upgraded HU... the speakers just about hold there own but are still crap..

for starters id recommend dissconecting the tweeters in the rear doors there are right next to your ear and that is all you can hear... this can be done from the rear speakers..simply unplug them..

as for the front id upgrade to 6.5inch componet set and spend

I have a set of front OEM speakers I took out of my seat they are a lot better than the OEM ones I had in my Octavia if you want them?

Getting rid of the rear tweeters will make a big difference :D

i found that the standard speakers sounded ok for a short period but soon changed them.

you probably have the bass and treble too high for the rating of the OE speakers and that why its sounding crap.

best and only real option is to go with aftermarket components in the front and 2ways or something simular in the rear quarters.

like i said i changed mine and am running pioneer ts series components up front and 2 ways in the back, i still have the rear tweeters connected and they sound fine to me... i like to hear the highs though, a 12" kicker sub sorts the low stuff out nicely.

Yes , the standard speakers are pants.

Hi Guys and Girls

Thanks for all the great advice

I have disconected the rear door tweeters - instant improvement.

I have now disconected the front door tweeters - improvement? Not sure

Do you think that disconecting the front tweeters too is overkill?

Am I right the front woofers are 6.5 inch and the rears quarter ones are 5.25 inch?

Thanks all

Matty

Yep , a pair of 6.25 components in the front and some 5 inch coaxials in the back will be a huge improvement.

Do you think that disconecting the front tweeters too is overkill?

You won't get much in the way of treble as a result...time to upgrade the speakers? :)

There is a set of 17cm front door woofers and door tweeters out of a Mk4 golf on sale

Will these be better than what I have already?

My Mk4 golf ice was superb so I guess yes?

Thanks

Dunno...the Octy stuff is all marked "VAG", so it might be the same stuff.

A lot comes down to the speaker mount, which isn't particularly great on the Octy. Not sure how it compares with the Golf stuff though!

Cool about the door skin interference

I'll get my razor blade out right now

Cheers for the tip
