Not a Skoda, but Passat 98 V5 cold running issue!

Featured Replies

Hi folks, has anyone any experience with V5 engine problems?

Namely starting from cold on a friends car, the engine will start first turn of the key but will not idle unless the accelerator pedal is depressed slightly to keep the revs up. If its left itll just die straight away. I can also hear what I believe to be a 'tap' as the revs die, im not whether this is a heatshield or a symptom of the fault.

It seems to run fine I believe after its been warmed up and will start immediately and idle fine when warm.

Any input would be great.

Thanks.

Complete guess but does the TB need aligned in these too?

Worth a code scan too.

Im not sure on the throttle body alignment...code scan sounds like a good place to start but he has never seen the EML flash when driving...I was thinking along the lines of the coolant sensor perhaps?

Sounds like the coolant sensor to me as it is OK when warm.

This would make the fuelling weak when cold. HTH :)

Possibly, EML doesnt always have to be on to log a code so a friendly local scanner would be ideal for you as a first point of call.
