skoda warrenty seems a bit rubbish

Featured Replies

as few might remeber i am having trouble with my gearbox. i was advised by my local dealer to try for a warrenty repair, so i did and got the answer today.

even though my car has a perfect main dealer service history and is between services right now they said they cannot help me with my car due to a)the milage - even though my car came with an unlimited milage warrenty and b)because i bought the car second hand  - they told me that if i had bought the car new then they probably would have helped me at the least but seeing as i bought a second hand car then i should have expected it to break down.

those were the actual words of skoda UK, probably the least helpfull manufacturer i have dealt with so far. i am considering consulting trading standards about the milage point of view as the warrenty states unlimited miles but they turn me down due to high miles. :thumbdwn:

jon(taviaRS), is it right you had similar problems and got it sorted even though your car was modded and done over 100k?? if so then would it be possible to get details as it may be usefull to me next time i call skoda to complain.

you will struggle with your gearbox. given you shunted the mota and will have pushed the driveshaft into it hard. the 02j is not a strong box and cannot take shocks...

trust me.

they dont know i had any accidents though, they are just basing the answer on milage

So why is there a warranty transfer card in with the handbook? There has been one on all three Fabias I've had, including the vRS I picked up less than two weeks ago.

Have to say I found Skoda UK quite unhelpful as well when I was having problems.

you assume they dont read the board......

I've not had too many problems with the warranty issues on my RS (including the seat covers etc) BUT Skoda UK seem to be more of a problem than my dealer who has pressed my case strongly every time.

The reasons they are giving you are absolute garbage ... simple mileage (unless very high indeed) should not cause a gearbox failure and as you say your warranty is unlimited mileage and IS tranferrable (mine was secondhand and they honoured my stuff).

Push them hard and if they don't budge threaten "Which" exposure or something else like it. Good luck :)

Though if the car isn't standard then they have another reason for voiding the warranty...

But I'd agree, mileage and second-hand (within the time scope of the warranty) isn't a good enough reason!

Rob.

Which I know they do.

yep, only thing non-standard is the dump valve. think i might ring TS and then ring skoda again. seems like they are just worming out of it.

and ffelen i'm talking about skoda uk not the dealer, the dealer is very helpfull

so long as the car is within its 3 year warranty you should be getting support from the manufacturer regardless of mileage.

As you said this is written as an unlimited mileage warranty, or 3 years so i cant see their problem to be honest.

Just made a claim which is going to cost a lot & one that even though fully justified I expected some hassle but they have agreed without even discussing it, with previous niggles I have always found both Skoda & the dealer to be more than fair.

To be honest I would expect a different attitude should I claim for anything that could have been effected bt any modifications to the car but I think that is only fair

My old one:

Synchro gone on second, third and slight wear on 5th

Teeth on second stripped / worn

Dealer had it in and stripped the box

I had to provide a full list of all mods to Skoda UK

Age was 2 years and 3 months

Mileage 132,000

Claim approved and work carried out.

They also did my driver's seat for me at the same time.

If you need any more details (name, reg no, dealer etc) I'll PM you.

got an update via phone today from skoda UK, they are gonna cover 100% of parts and want me to pay for labour for now while they try and get this re-imbursed and they want the car done by the end of the month so TRAX is looking like a definite again

So perhaps the warranty isn't that bad after all, bengie... :D Good news.

i think the problem was the warrenty department, the other departments that i have dealt with since have been good and helpfull especially the dealer. just can't wait to get my car back, been without a car now for over 6 weeks, before that it was about 3/4 weeks with only a weeks car use in between. ready and waiting now. shame i can't get a courtesy car, apparently there is a 3 week wait on them so it is out of the question now

Any other problems ring HQ and ask to speak to Gerry or Barry in Warranty. That'll pi55 em off nicely. ;-)

Oh dear, I am a walking self-fulfilling prophecy....

Hell hath no fury etc...

:D

Moi? Surely not... just having a little fun at the expense of those that deserve it.

have i missed something here loki, have you been upset by skoda??

Bengie, Niki used to work for Skoda Customer Services :)

But I escaped... still running from the hounds!

Seriously, when anyone has a problem in any aspect of life, I see no harm in being able to speak to the decision makers themselves rather than a poor CS person who is simply relaying a decision and can't change it. Why would anyone in authority object to speaking personally to someone who wanted clarification on a point if they had made a fair and justified decision that they could back up with solid fact and reasoning? I'd have thought they'd only have a problem if they had something to hide.

Not that this applies to just the one brand mind you.

I was at the dealer yesterday and noticed a leaflet (which I should have picked up) explaining some of the changes that took place to the warranty on new cars last year.

It is now a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty with an additional year up to 60,00 miles total distance.

This change came in at some point in 2002 (I think - I really should have picked the leaflet up!) so I assume the first owners are starting to fall foul of the change now.

well the cars now gone to my local dealer, who rang me up about 20 mins after deliver to inform me that the recovery company used to transport the vehicle had let the prop shaft and exhaust drag on the floor and as a result have damaged the prop shaft, to what extent we don't know yet but things just ain't going right for me lately

The warranty changed in April 2002. Before that date cars supplied by SkodaAuto UK benefitted from a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Bengie, look on the bright side. Maybe more new parts at no cost to you. :)

cheers denis i did already look at that side its just frustrating as i need the car sooner rather than later and the more that gets broke the longer it will take
