Rapid of Fabia??

Featured Replies

why would a corsa be more practical?... I can't see it myself..

:) Only more practical because of the hatchback, apart from that there isn't much in it. Corsa's are pretty good cars, but just not as fun IMO.

would people be put off because of the colour? you think it looks good? the corsa is 1.7td . how fast do the rapid rust? anythign go wrong with them? over heat? ahh so many questions so little time!!! lol

that rapid looks sweet!

Buy it NOW! No seriously!

Plus the other plus point of the rapid (and estelle) is that there are bugger all left, and so you get major exclusivity for little money!

Do it! you know it makes sense!

Maintained well should be no overheating problems I'd have thought. Could wire up a fan switch in case. Regarding rust, give a good wash/wax every-so-often. Underbody seal and waxoyl in cavities and inside doors etc should help. Insurance would no doubt be cheaper on the rapid.

would have to get some bigger alloys! ;):D and spioler like tenman

Some more thoughts for you Jaymz.

Whilst my Mum and myself both get along with the older Skodas really well, my Dad does not. He has driven them quite often for many years, but still struggles with them despite instruction and parctice. However he slotted straight into the driving seat of a Fabia and loves it. He now has one.

I do strongly suggest that you drive them both and see which you like best.

If you enjoy modifying, then the Corsa will be far easier, and fitting wide alloys to the Skoda will actually make it drive worse - it will wander at the front on the motorway (in the 'tramlines' made by lorries). What sets the Skoda apart from the Corsa and similar is it's 'feel' on the road - something that is missing from all of todays cars. You can feel the level of grip on the front tyres, the back end sliding, the sound of the engine under power - all very alive. Some feel that these sensations are 'crude' - they like a smooth, isolated and quiet ride.

The overheating is ALWAYS a sign of a fault. There is NO excuse for it if everything is working well. My 105, as it is working perfectly, drives in the heaviest of traffic and the hottest of days without any boiling or breaking down. Look after the Rapid and it will be the same.

TH

Easy peasy then - Rapid, esp as it's both white and got the fairly rare OEM option bodykit.

yeah i would have to drive it. just need to things bout it. does the 1989 model have a automatic choke?

No, it'll have a manual choke. The choke lever is on the floor in the middle, rather like a minature handbrake lever without the ratchet. All part of the charm!

Only exception to this is the ultra rare RiC with Bendix single point fuel injection and catalyst.

:P You bought it yet? Hurry up! :D:thumbup:

need to put up an engine shot but I'd guess that car may already have had the standard Jikov carb replaced with a webber, if its one like mine the choke was disconnected as its no longer needed with this carb :)...

only thing I think the corsa might be a bit better on would be the gearchange, on the rapid its a little clunky and hard work sometimes, mind you, that might just be mine with a much shortened gearstick, rapid wins hands down everywhere else I think, plenty of space in the front of a skoda to bung your shopping. Don't be put off by the rareness either, parts availability I've found to be very damn good and cheap. Even if you blow the engine its easy enough to get a rather newer one from a Felicia into it...

And, of course, it's not a V@*xh@11 C0@r$*r; the most loathesome car I've ever driven, despite the R19.

I had a Corsa 1.2 SXI as a courtesy car last year (same shape as JayMZ posted)

comfortable drive and willing perky 1.2 16v engine..........just dull. It felt too bulky, too wide and wooly compared to my Felicia. Faster in a straight line but not as nimble as a Felicia.

The 1.7TD? is this the DTI engine? I had one in an Astravan and Combo pretty nice engines and think they handled pretty well in van guises.

Hope you like the Corsa, its just not my cup of tea.

Good luck with the Corsa. I had a 1.7D 'B' model new in 2000, (non turbo Isuzu motor) It never let me down in 189,000 miles and only had 2 cam belt changes a new clutch, 2 new sets of glow plugs - not cheap Bosch are cheaper, and I had to replace the handbrake cables a week before I collected the Fabia. I was looking at getting an Astra Estate to replace it because it had been so reliable (and hammered to death for the last 90,000 miles,) but the Fabias price swung the deal.

Course it wasn't a Vauxhall........................... it was an Opel;)
