I have power steering back, but for how long

Featured Replies

As clearly, the rack is losing PAS fluid - There was a fair amount on the subframe. So, at least I know the pump is fine.

The reservoir (which was funnily enough bone dry ) has been filled right up again and as it stands, I have PAS working 100% - but for how long?

Can the steering racks be "refurbed" - As in, is there a kit from Skoda (or aftermarket) where you can replace seals and the like? Last resort is of course a brand new steering rack, but if it's only a seal that's leaking, I'd sooner go for the cheaper option and replace all the seals. :)

weight training does not help as it doesn't just go weak, it actually locks up tighter than if there was no PAS at all. I think this might be because as well as the steering itself, you're having to force the pump/rack to do something it's normally assisted... I dunno. Just need to know if a refurb is relatively simple.

It looks like the all the external parts are available seperatly but the main steering box is only available as whole unit from the dealer.

Look up steering rack refurbishing in your Thomson Local. I found one that refurbed my Passat Rack for £105+VAT and they had them in stock for exchange (with a surcharge).
