Hi guys

Looking at buying a Fabia vRS. My budget is around £5 - £6K. I have owned a vw tdi in the past. So I have some knowledge on these cars.

I am looking at around 2004 year, 50K miles. What are the main points for me to look out for like what can be problematic at 50K miles that I need to be aware of.

Thanks in advance :)

  • leaking rear doors. seals on ancillary carriers suck
  • knocking noise over bumps, changing gear, accelerating... dodgy engine mounts
  • cam belt should be done every 4 years or 60k, so check its been done
  • check for clutch noise, slip, noisey idle etc. the usual

Your looking for exactly what I bought a month ago.. Though I know my belt hasn't been done (thin Ice, I know .. it's being done with-in the month.)..

I heard that the VAG belt change guide was a revision.. at that originally it was just at 60k.. the 4 year thing came in later (I could totally be wrong though).

Good Luck mate.. I did a poll on here recently and if your picky about colour then don't set ya heart on Yellow! Black or Silver and you'll be fine ;-)

Thanks for the info so far

Cambelt could be a good one to get price down on the sale if not already done.

What is the issue with rear doors leaking? Also 'seals on ancillary carriers' ?

Can these be fixed at what cost?

Rear door seals let in water.Need to replace them.Ancillary carrier seals are behind the door cards which hold the window mechanism etc and must be sealed around them as water also gets in that way.Quite common faults with these cars. You will notice water in rear foot wells if any of these are faulty.

I have a 53 reg, and the manual says 80k or 4 years. It was revised to 60k or 4 years.

Thanks for the info so far. Looks like the two main points (after the usual checks on a car) are cambelt and the rear door seals.

Nearly there with my savings for a £5.5K budget. Keep the info coming in
