front bumper

Featured Replies

hi all can anyone tell me how easy it is to cut the centre out where the number plate go's as i want to open the bumper up for the front mounted intercooler

thanks

Very, the bumper shell is easy to remove and, a sharp stanley knife cuts through the plastic easy too. The hard bit is what to do with the gapping hole, a bit of metal work can see you fabricate a grill out of some stainless steel mesh (as available from the Halfords Saxo section).

The other question you need to decide upon is what to do about the crash bar that sits behind the bumper at about number plate level. Some of us take a hacksaw/angle grinder to it, but if you do this, consider that you may lose some crash protection and front end torsional stiffness. I fitted strut braces top and bottom when I did mine a few years back and could say I noticed any difference in handling. I've not crashed it so I can give an opinon on what will happen if you smack it into another vehicle or stationary object at 30mph!
