Bolero radio screen

Featured Replies

Hi folks - my Superb is on order, just a quick question about the above (because I didn't bother to check it on the test drive I took).

The bolero radio touch screen is both large and fairly bright.

I presume i can

1. dim the display?

2. turn the display off but still have radio playing? Real shame if I can't, as that quite a big lit area when driving in the dark.

SE trim, so I'm not talking about the columbus unit.

Ta

yes ou can - well you can on the columbus so i assume its the same. i fiddel with the options and found a brightness control and and off control.

maybe someon who has got their car (lucky gits !) can confirm this from the manual

thanks - would be helpful to know if I can switch display off with a single button, as opposed to fiddling through the options whilst driving.

ex Saab driver I'm afraid, and I do love the "Night Panel" button you get on those - really relaxing.

Don't think you can turn the display off completely, without actually turning the unit off.

Both Columbus and Bolero have ambient light sensors, and automatically adjust the display brightness accordingly. Alternatively, you can manually adjust the brightness. The unit can also maintain different brightness settings for day and night driving (based on whether the lights are on or off).

Alternatively, you can specify if you want the unit to permanently use either day or night settings. I guess you could make the night setting use zero brightness, which would give you a near black screen. You'd then have to toggle it to day setting manually. This would still require you to press the 'SETUP' key, and then choose one other option on the touchscreen.

Either way, I don't think there is a way to get the 'Night Panel' functionality with just a single button press.

thanks.

Shame!

I have the columbus in my octavia, and the display is not distracting at all both in the day or night. You really wont have any problems, the display background is black anyway and when its dark you dont even notice the backlight.

This may be totally irrelevent, but on the MFD2 there was a Day/Night button and if you held this in for a couple of seconds it switched the display off and just retained button illumination.

if this unit has a day/night button then give it a try

i am not an ex saab driver but our old Audi A6 had the same button that turned off the display. probably more neccessary as the display was mich higher up close to teh eyeline of the driver. in teh superb its lower down. i like the fact that when you adjust the heater the display comes on to show you the settings then it goes off again once you have finished. in my audi the screen woudl stay on and then you had to turn it off manually. annoying if all you wanted was to turn the fan speed up one nothch !!

sorry about my crap typing - im not drunk...honest !!

Yes, I did like the heater settings coming up on the big screen. Helpful, particularly as I found looking at the settings on the actual dials pretty difficult (if temp is set to a value thats on the "other side" of the dial as you look at it - if you see what i mean)

knowwhat you mean - what car moaned about this in their review. still its about the only thing they could find "wrong" with the car !!!

I found it interesting that they whinged about this in their review of the Superb, but didn't mention it in their write up on the Passat CC (which uses the same controls, and has the same problem).

If the information didn't also come up on the touchscreen, then I'd be more concerned about it. As it is, I think I can live with it.

and the new mark 6 golf will use the same dash layout too i believe !!
