How do i connect my iPod to my Roomster?

Featured Replies

I know that this query may seem a little basic but I have any ipod classic and a Roomster3 with an AUX and am wondering what is the best way to connect the two so I can play the music on my ipod in the car?

Not 100% sure on a classic, but it should work, get a 3.5mm Aux cable, plug it into the earphone jack on the ipod and the connector under the "aux" flap near the handbrake lever.

Hit the CD Changer button twice and it will put it into "aux" mode then it will play what's coming out of the ipod.

There is no Ipod control, but it works well enough if you creat some playlists and play from those.

As stated in a thread just below this one I use one of these:

UK Car AUX Audio Cable Lead Connector to 3.5mm for iPod on eBay, also Car Kits, Apple iPod Accessories, MP3 Player Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 13-Oct-08 09:02:17 BST)

They have the benefit of using the better quality sound from the docking connector (the cables that come out of the 3.5mm jack do not produce as good sound quality). It will not charge the ipod but gives a similar level of sound to the radio and CD so you do not have to change the volume when you change between sources.

Hope this helps

Whilst not overly relevant to the thread, the dock / aux won't work with iphone's (just for info) and the OP has a classic.

Be interested to hear on how / why the quality is better as I use an oxygen free gold plated aux cable and the sound quality is about as good as an Ipod / iphone get's to my ear's (although my ears are not great :))

I believe the sound quality is better because the sound is not processed through the on board amp on the ipod. Instead you get the sound direct from the processor. I have used both the docking port and headphone socket. I definately heard the difference with the sound from the docking port being cleaner and far better quality. Give it a try and see what you think (this is also the reason, I presume, that most of the aftermarket external portable speaker systems plug into the docking port).

I thought the classic ipods still had the same docking port as the videos etc. Although I could be wrong about that!

Thanks for all the information, particularly Fluffmeister. I had tried connecting previously but hadn't realised that I needed to press the CD button twice to get into AUX mode.

they probably do mate, but I am using an iphone and a lot of these dock cables don't work, but the aux always does, so I went that route.

thanks for the info though
