front pads and discs

Featured Replies

my vrs needs new pads and discs on the front ,i have been quoted £100 for brembo standard discs and £36 for pagid pads from gsf ,which is a good price, the question i want to ask is can i get any better pads or disc's for ruffly the same price and if so were from

cheers

That's a good price and you could get better for more money but for the whole lot that's pretty reasonable.

That £100 a pair seems a bit high to me, are they 312mm?

search on the forum and you'll get lots of answers, some people had bad experience witht the mintex box sets, I've just had a set of the rears for my 4x4 octy (seem OK so far) as for the "Performance" Discs, exactly what brand are they? the listing doesnt say so I'd be wary and with such a good price from GSF not worth the risk IMHO

I wouldn't say "the same way" as there are lots of variables involved. biggest differences can be in the materials used. most worrying thing though are the stories of the Bay ones that the guy grooves and drills himself? less worrying buying the solid discs though

imo no point in grooved etc unless you are really pushing it! and even then! (do race cars even use grooved discs?)

i use these

www.vwspares.co.uk

febi bilstein oem replacements £22.95 each

with mintex extremes and there more than good enough for road usage.

where can i get the minex extremes from and how much are they

where can i get the minex extremes from and how much are they

Jabba had them a while back but they are hard too find nowadays. I belive they do another pad which is nearly the same but called something 1144 ?????.

My extremes screech like a scaled cat and I've tried all the tricks and they still do it.

any ideas for alternative pads then for around £40

Tbh I heard the pagids are pretty good although I'm not sure which model it was.

FYI the extremes are about £65

the pagid sport iirc isnt ce marked so may cause insurance issues, ferrodo are worth the money though, or mintex replacement pads for fast road use.

GSF pads are pagid/mintex/textar anyway (all part of TMD friction)

i can get pagids from gsf for £36 but i'm not sure which ones they are ,everyone recommends the rs 4-2 blue ones or the rs 4-2-1 black but i can't see em being any of them as the cheapest i have seen em for is £140 so which ones are gsf selling ?

ferrodo ds2500's are the good ones and are about £100 for a front set

Mintex M1144? If so, I had them on my ZX, and they're a marked step up on standard Bendix material.

got em !!!! zimmerman drilled discs, textar pads ,1ltr of dot 4 and some brake cleaner all for £163 ,many thanks to brian of gsf trafford park :thumbup:15102008328.jpg

Why not Dot 5.1, since you seem to have uprated everything else? It's OK to use in a Dot4 system, search for my post on brake pads for benefits. Do not confuse with Dot5
