mp3 / iPod

Featured Replies

I'm sure it's been covered before but I don't see it.

I want to connect an mp3 player, or iPod to the sound system on my 57 Plate Octy Ambiente.

Is this possible as I do appear to have an AUX option on the unit in addtion to the fitted 6 CD unit.

I'm not bothered about getting a display of track information.

SWMBO's Fabia 2 has a simple 3.5mm jack next to the handbrake and this works fine. Something similar would suffice.

Do you have the jumbo box fitted, if so the aux jack input is in there.

Ditto!

Once you find the AUX socket, connect up your mp3/ipod and then press the 'CD' button repeatedly until mp3 appears on the screen and away you go.

No idea, what's a jumbo box? (I guess I haven't got one.)

On a previous car it was possible to use three pins of a multi-connector provided on the head unit for a non-existent multi-changer.

I'm wondering if there is a similar option here?

Jumbo box is a box fitted between the driver and passenger seat with an arm rest on top. You lift the arm rest to get into the box and there is a 3.5mm jacket socket is in there. It also provides air vents for the rear seat passengers.

if you haven't a jumbo box with aux 3.5mm input under your central armrest then you can fit a Dension gateway 100. This cost about the same as a Skoda ipod kit, but enables you to connect an aux 3.5mm input as well. It REPLACES your CD changer. Can't have both.

It will even charge a iphone 3G now!

I have used ipodcarkitdirect in the past & can recommend them.

That's a great pity.

As I'd understood it some cars with a jumbo box still have a 6CD changer? (e.g. Elegance spec.) These appear to have the same head unit.

How does that work?

I believe there is also a Dension unit that allows you to keep the cd changer and also use the ipod. I think it costs a bit more but it does give you the ability to keep all the functions you have now.

That is correct. I have both. I can't use my 6CD player as I have the skoda ipod kit plugged into the back of my headunit instead of the 6CD changer. The 6CD changer is still fitted to my car in the boot compartment.

The jumbo box and 6CD player are un-related. The jumbo box is where the 3.5mm aux input is located on later cars.

Thats right it is listed as an option for the Dension Gateway 100 & 300 units, but according to my source it is not available yet, and they don't know when or even if it will be available.

you could wire one in yourself if you dont have a mp3 lead/jumbo box. i did do a write up on here if it helps?

i do have the 6 cd changer in the boot.

i think they only got introduced 07 onwards- i have an aux point in the

central arm rest on my scout - using the av selecction on the standard radio.cabling tho is messy.

there is a very card good hdd on rns 510 or sd card slot avail on the rcd510- this may already be in the new superb

NEW SKODA 16:9 DVD navigation RNS510 MP3 SD DVD player on eBay, also, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 20-Oct-08 20:15:00 BST)

Yes. see other threads on MFD3/RNS 510/colombus which is same unit. The 3.5mm jack has nothing to do with whether the headunit fits your car.

no no leave the 3.5mm jack idea what if i wonted to replace the lot. would that unit fit

yes the unit would fit just need to order a new surround, but a look on stus vrs site will show the part number and tell you how to fit it.

Stu's vrs site shows how to fit the mfd2 & part no.s refer to that unit. The one you were looking at is the MFD3, which I understand uses yet another different surround. Fitting is the same I understand for either unit.

Ask Mannyo and others for the correct part no.

thanks all that great :)

interesting thread. I have the Audience head unit with the sound system. I dont have the jumbo box or any 3.5mm jack input, and was wondering if its possible to be able to connect my ipod somehow. TIA, Damian.

Ditch the 6CD changer if you have one and fit a Dension gateway 100, which connects to the 6CD output on the headunit. it has a 3.5mm aux input and an ipod lead which you can route to wherever you want your ipod. costs approx £100 ish.

I dont have the 6cd changer, I just put 6 disks in the front slot. Will it have the connection on the back of the HU for the changer or dension lead still?

probably. I think the car wiring is standard. You can always check by removing the headunit & looking at the wring diagram on the unit and also the quadlock. should be space for 2 connectors at the bottom of the quadlock. one for CD & one for telephone muting etc.
