Gearbox Linkage Adjustment - help!

Hi, I've just tried adjusting my gear linkages using some guides I found on here. But now I can't get reverse gear and the other gears don't feel very good.

Has anyone else tried this successfully? The little black angle piece you're meant to use to lock something in place doesn't seem to do anything.

Hope someone can help me :confused:
