when its cold out(yesterday 2 °C) and when i start my engine it shows the temp and a little sign, a little snow flake-like this 2.0°C*...what does this mean?

I can't remember the exact definition from the handbook, but it's something to do with indicating when the roads are likely to be icy so you can be more alert to black ice.
