Autochanger help!

Featured Replies

Hi

I recently bought an 05 Mk1 VRS with only 12000 miles on the clock which I have subsequently had converted to LPG. None of that particularly relevant to the problem I have but just setting the scene.:)

Decided to upgrade the sound system so replaced the head unit with a pioneer USB head unit.

Plan was to remove the autochanger and sell it (not really needed when I have 16GB of MP3 on a USB stick). Unfortunately I forgot to remove the CD's from the changer before removing the head unit. Pioneer unit was a nightmare to fit because I had to get a ton of wiring into the space behind the stereo. I really don't want to remove it again to reconnect the old unit just to power up the autochanger so I need another way to get the CDs out of the autochanger.

There doesn't seem to be a manual release but since the cassette can usually be removed without the head unit being on I guess there is normally a permanent power supply.

Pins on the connector on the autochanger are as follows:

1 Orange

2 Black

3 Purple

4 Brown

5

6 Yellow

7 Red

8 Grey

9 Thick Black

10 White

11 Blue

12

Does anyone have any idea what I would need to connect to power to allow me to remove the cassette or any other suggestion of how to get the CD's out

Thanks

Don't recognise your colours.

On the changer

Pin 3 is usually Earth (Power)

Pin 6 is usually +12V

Pin 9 is usually Earth (Signal)

Don't know what to tell you.

Those are the colours I have based on the pin numbers on the connector

If you partially dismantle it you can release the cartridge, but you may have problems if there is a CD that is out of the cartridge. You need to remove the top with the sliding door and then the larger of the two pieces of the body of it, then you can just release the mechanism, from memory it is pretty obvious what to do. To do anything more requires you to almost completely dismantle it - the circuit boards obscure everything else.
