Flashing engine management light and loss of power.

Featured Replies

All happened in the morning as I was going to school across town. Took my car from garage, let it heat for a minute or 2 while I closed the garage door and off I went. Half way to school I noticed that engine lost most of it's power, engine management light started flashing on and off with irregular pattern and if I tried to accelerate the engine started to stutter. I slowly cruised to school. Now, car had stood outside for 5 hours and as I started it it had no problems. Good! Power was back, everything was fine. Came home, checked fluids and engine's work and everything seems ok. But I'm a bit worried what could had caused such a problem. Could it happen again?

I know, that you can not assist me without VAG-Com readings but I just don't have anyone available to use other than services. Tho I will buy myself VAG-Com stuff so I can tinked with car myself.

Thanks in advance for good help.

You have hit the nail on the head so to speak.

Without a fault code its anyones guess, especially as we dont know what Fabia you drive.

Serious stab in the dark, but check the connections on the battery. Mine raised merry hell, as although the cinch nut was tight, the connector itself wasn't far enough down the terminal post, so it would jump off occasionally for a moment and cause all sorts of trouble! May well not be that, but won't cost anything or take much time to check!

If the problem is more occurring when the engine is warm, would this not point towards a temperature sensor problem? Agree though that more engine details are required.

Damnit. I completely forgot about that. Sorry!

I have a 1.4 MPI 2002.

Happened with cold engine and I changed temperature sensor a month ago.

I also found out that the car has had such behaviour before. My mother said that she had this problem once in the spring and she noticed a heavy petrol smell in car. I didn't notice that.

1 question aswell: where is Fabia's fuel filter, if it has such a thing? I believe that no-one has changed it over the years and it might be clogged up.

Thanks to Ap0gee aswell, I'll go check battery connections.
