strut top mount problem

Featured Replies

anyone any idea how much these are,i stripped the thread removing the strut brace so need an offside front topmount:mad:

Sorry not to be too exact, but "not too much" - maybe you should also buy the top bearing assembly, strut top S/L nut and 3-off mount securing bolts - for both sides - and use a torque wrench when you tighten up the small bolts - then spray some waxoil onto the lower ends of these bolts to prevent them from rusting up and seizing in the future.

But, before you do all that, why not try to drill out the sheared bolts - doing that will try to drive them down and so cleaner (less rusty) threads will probably quite happily run down the threads in the top mounts - its worth a try, remember to use a centre punch first so that the drill has somewhere to "stay" in. If you end up drilling right down through these sheared bolts and they are still not loose, then use "easi-outs" or extracters when you have opened the holes up enough.

Edit, sorry I've just remembered that you say that you have stripped the threads in the captive nuts - strange - I would have thought that the bolts would have sheared first as they are quite low grade (strength).

Been there done that had to drill it out. Think the top mounts are around £12 each. I ended up buying a set of stu.

Dont the KW come with their own top mounts? or is that just the clubsport.

just the clubsports,i don't think i'm going to replace it with an oe one now,kw do a nice set of camber adjusting top mounts i'm going to order up,i'll fit em next weekend and we can have a test at blyton:D

Going by you tyres last time. Some extra negative camber is needed :)

Yeah standard top bearings about £12 + vat from dealer.

Striping or just working the threaded bit loose is common if your taking the brace off a lot to get at the air filter. You will need spring compressors to change on standard struts.

I would x reference the part number from the originals to see what else in the Vag range they fit and see if you can get anything else from that.
