Tighten Fabia Handbrake

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to tighten the handbrake in a 2k fabia? i know theres that little pop panel that comes away directly underneath the handbrake, never looked underneath it though!

Remove the rear ashtray/coin holder thingy, simply pull it off, you will see the handbrake cables and a tightning nut that is used to loosen/tighten the handbrake. Jack the rear of the car up (keep it in gear) and ajust so that it is 4 clicks to fully apply the handbrake. E.g, put the handbrake onto the 4 click position, turn the nut and then try and turn the rear wheels. It is not essential to jack the car up, you can always just try to move the car. Also make sure that when the handbrake is off, it is fully off and the dash warning light is off.

With the handbrake off, press the brake pedal 3 times.

Slowly pull up the handbrake, counting the clicks - it should be 4 +/- 1.

If not, release the hand-brake and remove the rear ash-tray at the back of the centre-console.

You should see a long adjuster nut end-on to a bracket with the hand-brake cables attached to either side.

Using a jack and axle-stands, remove the rear road-wheels (chock the fronts) and with a feeler gauge, check the gap between bracket attaching the cable to the brake caliper and the stop. It should be between 1mm and 1.5. Loosen and retighten the hand-brake adjuster nut until you get this gap correct.

Stick car back together again and Robert is your Dad's brother.

Real techs please check...
