Will my premium go up because of this...

Featured Replies

As most of you will be aware i have another thread going about this but want to know if this will put my premium up.

Back in july i had a minor accident where i sustained just a slight scratch and later found that the other driver drove away and later made the damage apear worse to back up a personal injury claim.

My insurers have carried out independant inspections of both cars and have found that my car never caused the damage to the other car (as this was kicked in after the incident to make it look worse)

Now the other parties insurers have carried out their inspection and my insurers are waiting for their report to come back.

My question is if both reports come back that my vehicle never caused the damage to the extent that the other party is claiming for and they dont pay out for and any personal injury or vehicle repair, will my premium still go up at the next renewal...I have protected no claims and just wanted to know if they never made a payout and decided to throw the other parties claim out how would this affect my next premium, as they were looking at a possible £5,000 payout for personal injury for the other party.

Just wanted to know more how its likley to work out.

Thanks

i'd bloody hope not and if it did i'd be looking at legal action against them for it.

As I understand it, you have had an accident to which you have admitted liability to the insurance company. Now as my premiums went up when someone else hit me (ie. I was not at fault) then I'm guessing that yours will too.

Annoying isn't it!

Depends on your insurers, on the one hand you have had an accident in which you have admitted responsability so making you a greater risk, and depending on if they end up paying out for hiring independant specialists etc will possibly lead to higher premiums. On the otherhand they may not have to pay out and leave your premiums alone.

For example when I renewed my insurance I forgot (hionestly) about a minor scrape I had in the GPO van. Shortly after I got a form letter from RM about re training after a fault claim so also contacted my own insurers expecting a premium hike, but they where uninterested and said it had no bearing, which I thought was a rite result :D

Right up to the bit about the guy kicking in his bumper, I thought it was like the situation we're in with my wife's car - there was damage, but not enough to be worth making a claim for. It was explained to me that NCB will be retained, but the premium will be weighted next time on account of the accident. So the base premium will go up by £xxx per year, but the NCB of xx% will still apply (+1 year if nothing else goes wrong! :o )

Thanks for this, My insurance tell me that they will foot all the bills for the engineers and reports as they are defending my case.

If both engineers come up with the same result then the claim wont be paid out as it has then been proved that the damage to the other parties car is inconsistant with mine.

If the claim is finalized in this way and no payment made then i will not have a premium rise, But if they do pay out I will keep my no claims but it will be logged as a "fault claim" so will affect the next years premium.

Heres hoping that they dont pay out.

Thought you had protected no claims and that allowed (in my case 2 claims in five years ) ,so have you had other claims ?

You still only keep your no-claims bonus, the premium they charge isn't, so 65% off £1000 and 65% off a premium hike say £1500 because you have had a claim give 2 very different prices despite haveing full no claims :(
