recuring cv.boot problem

Featured Replies

hi all, i was just wondering if anyone would know why i have had 5 cv.boots replaced in 12 months, although my superb is used for a taxi doing aroung 45000 miles per year surely the problem is not due to the mileage that i do. your veiws on this would be greatly appreciated.

Are you replacing them with the rubber boots or the plastic ones?

Seems strange its going through that many in that little time.

the garage where i take it to uses rubber one`s, should i be using plastic?

Also use superb as taxi, just replaced cv boots for 1st time and 1 cv joint at 180,000 miles. Not much help to you, but had no problems here!

When i worked at VW they were upgraded to the plasic ones.

Passats had the common problem of the rubber boots splitting after a while. (just not 5 in a year)

So if they were upgrading them to the plastic ones it must make some sort of difference.

May aswell try it out and see how it goes.

There may be an underlying problem with yours though.

Just seems odd that its going through so many.

I'd guess where you take it isn't fitting them right, too much grease in the boot can make them fail, as can not straightening the boot out before tightening up the ties.
