New install this weekend!!!

Featured Replies

Getting my gear installed this weekend. The shop is gonna supply and fit for what appears to be a very good price, specially as I did not fancy tearing the doors off my new furby vRS!

So it is looking like:

Alpine 9835 OR 9833, depends how rich I feel :)

Polk db coax up front (may splash out on the momos if they fit/ I get a good price!)

infinity reference 4" coax rear fill.

My ears are a bit ballsed from being a bass junky in my youth so not worried about ultimate volume/quality*just want something better then stock!

Then for my birthday in Oct I will prob buy an Infinity basslink box to help the bottom end.

What you lot think? reasonable?

* Had twin Panisonic 12`s running 400WRMS from a bridged Clarion 1F capped and split charged in a fiat Uno in 1996-1998, then a pair of Alpine 10" ZR1000 sealed in 1998/1999 sucking 250w RMS ea from another Clarion beast in a DIY

Furby doors are notirious for getting stuff to fit !! We have a look at Rooboys car and we struggled. As for the headunit 9833 and 95 are not my personal favourite at the moment. I'm still tending to find the Alpine stuff a bit 'flat' on sound when not used with external amps. Running amps and they sound fine. Why not have a look at the very well specced Pioneer DEH-P8600MP ??

What a nightmare . . .

So where to start . . . I had the 9833 and the polks running on the shop stand and they sounded great, but in the fabia . . . oh dear . . . this did not work well at all.

To say the amp sounds flat is a bit of polite way to put it. . . when combine with the bright polk tweets I was most distressed! After a week of tweaking I was not happy at all, went back to the shop (a place I have always bought stuff from) they were really good. Spent about 1.5 hours with me running through options, in the end they hooked up a Pioneer 8600 for me and half the probs were gone! There was bass rsponse from the polk 6.75" drivers (doors rattled, unsurprisingly, need to sort that next weekend!) but the tweets were still a bit bright for me . .

After some auto eq magic and using the digital attentuation on the 8600 I am now very happy! So thanks big time for your advice ;)

I have a question, I want to pull the tweets down by another 3 or 6 db so there is less work on corrections being done by the head unit. The Polks are components and have a 2 way x-over. can anyone suggest how I can make a modification to the x-over (cap in the right place should do it, but where and what value? I don`t know!) to attenuate the tweets?

Ta muchly!
