Brakes Sticking!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Just wondering if any of you guys can help. I think the back left calliper is sticking, as now and again it starts making a howling noise, if I turn the wheel left or touch the brakes it stops, but as soon as I start off again it continues.

I tried rolling down a hill with the handbrake on for a couple of seconds to try and straighten out the problem, but nothing happens.

Anyone had this problem before? and if so is it cheap to fix? 03 plate, so out of warranty.

Any comments will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

I have an 1.4 16v Fabia on a W and a few months ago mine started to do the same thing, I only noticed mine after when I could smell something burning put my hand near the wheel and compared it to the rest of the brakes. I left it and it sorted it self out (either that or worn the pad or pads down)

Jack up rear of car and see if wheel rotates freely. If not, caliper may be partly seized or pads near the end of their life. Also check wheel bearing has no lateral play if you rock the wheel with the handbrake off.

Use an axle stand if you intend to rock the wheel or if going under the car for closer look.

Another possibility is the caliper guide pins are dry which will cause the caliper to stick to the sliding frame.

Thanks guys

I've read the other threads, and tried their tactics but no luck.

i'll be shopping later, so will wack it up on tesco's car park, its nice and flat there. I dont think its the pads though.

Demon Tweeks didnt say anything after fitting new wheels a week ago. Ah well.

Cheers anyway guys, Have a nice weekend.
