Any Ideas?

Featured Replies

Ok guys.... My partner got a 03 plate Fabia 1.4 16v (AUB engine) Lately we have noticed that when trying to start it sometimes just turns over and makes no attempt to fire, and when it does it miss fires abit then will run ok. Also the revs when idle have been rising upto around 1400 - 1800 with no throttle... Normally idles at 1100 (choke) and 900 (warm), Sometime there is a metalic sounding Rattle from the engine or exhaust area at front of car. (In front of or around driver/passenger seats)

Anyone got any ideas what the possible causes could be?

Sparkplugs are clean and in good condition, Filters are clean. Fuel is New.

I have videos of it if anyone know if they can be uploaded i'll upload them for you

Now i,m no mechanic but it sounds like it may be catalsyt/oxygen sensor related.

I had similar problems a number of years ago with a ford orion and the catalytic converter had collapsed on the inside:(

Have the ECU read for fault codes and go from there. Could be just about anything to do with engine management.

ECU Been reset twice by Dealer. No fault codes showing up, had problems with EGR valve, Throttle body and suspension since had the car, been to dealer and other garages for diagnostics.... Nothing been found. Car will run fine for a day or two and then will play up and then after a while (day or more) will be fine for a while again. Started it after 60 mile trip tonight and the temp read cold, When it had only been sat 5 mins (was on halfway before)

Really Starting to become a pain, not good at all :thumbdwn:

Intermittent coolant temperature sensor.

Would the temp sensor cause it not to start and things like that?

Yep, anew coolant temps sensor will sort it out, had the same problem on my 8V, should only be about £30.00... not too much i suppose, pretty easy to replace yourself too.
