Oil usage

Featured Replies

It seems to me that my 22000 mile 6 year old Fabia is using a lot of oil, it had a service in March and we have done nearly 4000 miles since and the oil light came on. So i checked it and the dip stick shouls nearly empty so i put more in.

I can`t see any oil leaks anywhere or see or smell oil coming from the exhaust, this is baffeling me.

Has anyone had this.

I think it's normal for them to use a lot of oil in the first 10,000 miles or so, then after that they usually settle down. I'd get down to a garage and get it checked over.

Oil useage is what the 16V engines do. They can suffer from piston ring problems, at the moment a litre or so every 4000 miles is well within VWs guide limits for oil consumption.

Have a good check/clean of the crankcase breather system and air filter, can make a big difference. Also, I have used flushing oil when servicing, I think part of the problem could be gummed up oil rings especially on a car doing such low mieage.

Cheers guy`s, i`m a bit better now you said it`s normal. I will have it checked out, but everything seems fine.
