Superb Brochure and Model Advice

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My first post here, looking at buying a Superb 170 CR SE - just having difficulty choosing the colour - Does anybody know what colour the silver/grey superb featured in the brochure actually is - helpfully the brocuhure doesn't seem to state it as far as I can see.

Cheers !

It's steel grey, something which took ages to confirm for certain.

I've got a 170 Elegance CR in this colour, and it's very nice indeed.

Thanks Bagpuss, I thought it might be the anthracite,

does anybody have some decent pictures of the anthracite ? I think the brochure and website make it look a bit blue but I'm sure that can't be right.

Anthracite is definitely not "bluey" satin grey however is, there are some good pictures on page 2 of the link above.

Thanks Dan,

definetly leaning to the Anthracite, I'll have a look at the swotches at the dealer and decide then but if its like it is on these pictures I think thats decided.

Only other question is do I go for the 140 eleg or the 170 SE, both would be manual. local dealers only have 140's which isn't too shabby but is the 170 worth the extra pennies ?

Storm or Rosso mate.

I haven't seen one but I reckon Amazonian Green will look nice.

General consensus on here is that the 140 does have enough power, however it is noisier and delivers its power in a more on/off way than the 170. The 140 is a PD (Pump Duse) engine and the 170 is a CR (common rail) system.

PD is being phased out so it seems a little odd that a new model like the Superb has the PD engine.

I also like Anthracite, but also black, silver, satin grey, steel grey, the dark metallic blue. I also love the Mocca, but wouldn't have the guts(....hey I drive a brown Skoda!)

Many on here like the ivory interior (I guess they don't have kids) and wood trim........I personally am choosing the onyx interior and standard metallic trim.

Yep,

little one with a second planned forces me to look for something bigger, black interior is the only option I'd consider, I've grey at the moment and its pretty scuffed up in just 3 years of mostly business use - little on is only just walking and already I have visions of chocolate stains on seats.

I like the Moca but have the same concerns - its what stops me from ordering the Black (no I don't do funerals).

the blues are pretty nice but from the pics I've seen I think they are a bit loud for me. My wife has veto'd the green (don't know why) and I have thing about Red on anything but a Ferrari (and even then I couldn't say I particularly like it on a car). Which leaves white which I like but last time I had a white Vectra SRi I spent more time washing it than driving it. So its definetly a silver or grey - I really like the graphite grey of my 1 series so I'm going to go for whatever is closest to that I reckon.

I think I'll keep with the 170 I plan to add bluetooth anyway so its only the Sat-Nav on the options list I'm really fussed about so I may add it as an option but I'll see what the pocket money is like at the time. I always wish I'd gone for the 120d rather than the 118d so I don't want to make the mistake again.

I have auto-wipers at the moment but I think they are a special german form of torture they never, ever clear the windscreen as often as I want them to, and if you move to the On setting it clears it too often, I much prefer the little manual dial to alter the intermittent settings.

anthracite is very dark - almost black. it is available in other models in the current skoda range so i think you shoudl be able to find an anthracite skoda in the flesh to look at - the swatches are hopeless and dont reflect the colours very well. I chose satin grey as we felt the other greys / silvers were a but run of the mill . I like the steel grey and must admit it suits the car well. satin grey is a bit lighter and has a blue tint and my wife preferred it although it was a close run thing with steel grey.

We went for the ivory interior as bored of germanic black interiors. we have two small kids and going for a light interior does not scare me. out last car is black inside but is cloth and is worse than wipe clean leather. Its still in pretty good nick even though its done 89k and had kids in it for 5 years. I never quiet understand how people manage to wreck th einsides of thier cars - we are not the kind to clean in every weekend, to be honest we are a bit lazy in the car cleaning department !! we dont let the kids eat sweets and chocolate in the car much (maybe as they dont eat these kind of things anyway) and always make sure muddy shoes are taken off but apart form that dont go to great lengths to look after the inside so i never understand when i see cars with half the mileage of mine that look like they have been roudn the clock 3 times !!

have a good look at the flickr gallery of bagpuss - its very helpful in choosing colours and ask your dealer to see other skoda models in the colours you are thinking of - anthracite, satin grey, storm blue, black magic, are all available plus some others that i dont think you have mentioned such as the beiges etc.

Sat nav is a very expensive option and you will get more functionality from a £100 tomtom. i will have it in my superb simply because i wanted and elegance model for other reasons (electric seats and xenons mainly). auto wipers are standard i think. i have them on my passat and they are OK - not great but OK. good when overtaking a wagon and they speed up to clear the spray.

good luck with choosing and welcome to briskoda - i have only been on here for a few months but you will find some very helpful and knowledgeable people in here. make sure you ask hundreds of questions befroe you buy like I did so you dont miss anything

cheers

Just my 2p worth, would anyone buy a car of this type/cost without seeing the colour in the flesh?

Different for me, I can only have White but to choose a colour from a swatch seems just 'wrong' to me.

I wouldn't. I went into my local dealer just to get some screenwash refills and was so taken with the new Superb in Rosso I ordered one. I definitely wouldn't buy a car in a specific colour unless I'd seen it.

Not only that... in fact, there are people who buy a car of this cost without a driving test

I've chosen one as a company car (not the same as buying, but I'll be stuck with it for 3 years!) without a test drive.

I have done this several times. As long as the car is comfy and I have read plenty of reviews I'm happy enough. I don't see what there will be not to like. Bit odd for me really as I'm so meticulous over many things.

I just did !!

I ordered an 1.8 Petrol DSG Elegance Pacific Blue.

I guess I am more interested in the interior, that is were I see the car from most of the time :-)

I haven't seen one but I reckon Amazonian Green will look nice.

Noooooooooo, I've seen one it's horrid, it's hard to describe tbh, but it ain't nothing like the pics shows, it's almost like the Skoda badge green in metallic.

I was forced to order (by my company) before any demonstrators were available. It happens like that, sometimes.

I always knew which colour I wanted (as lots of promo shots featured it), but actually working out that it was 'steel grey' took a lot of time, especially as the colour is called 'platin grey' in the rest of Europe. Even retailer support weren't certain that 'steel grey' was the same as 'platin grey'.

From what I can tell, BMW currently have two colours which are similar to the Superb. BMW Platinum Grey actually looks very similar to Anthracite Grey on the Superb, and BMW Space Grey is a good match for Steel Grey.

Graphite Grey no longer seems to be available on new Beemers, but it looks to fall somewhere in between Steel Grey and Anthracite. If you prefer a slightly lighter colour, then I reckon Steel Grey is the one to go for. As most dealers seem to have at least one demonstrator in Steel Grey, it shouldn't be too hard for you to find one to look at.

I'm in MK next week going to make a detour past Skoda UK and see whats parked outside. The Sat Nav is hugely useful for work I bought a top of the range tomtom when 3 Years ago when I got the BMW on the principle that I wouldn't pay £2700 for the privilege and its good but its a pain in the bum taking it out of the glove box every journey and putting it back in, little thing really but it just makes you wish it was built-in and I plan to run the Superb for five years so figure I'll probably regret it if I don't get it.

I will try and spot a Rosso one as so many people seem to like it.

Here's a pic of my rosso brunello to give you an idea.

The picture doesn't do it any justice, I've seen an SE in this colour and it looks the nutz in the flesh.
