timing belt timing

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have just had the beloved vrs fsi into the dealership for a couple of items under warranty, one of which was a slipping belt noise when starting engine from cold. The dealer has confirmed that the noise is the timing belt and has booked me in this friday to 'get at it'. I suppose my question is , how long a job is 'getting at' the timing belt? I've been told 3-4 days at the garage which seems ott. Any ideas?

If the dealer believes there is an issue with the timing belt I'm surprised that he let you drive the car! The timing belt won't be slipping as its toothed. If there is any doubt to the condition of the belt or tensioners there is only one course of action & that is to replace them. Broken belt = serious engine damage.

well that is what I was thinking. I raised this at the time , and was told that it would be fine to drive and not to worry as its under warranty and if anything does go wrong i'm covered. i found this strange, but he definitely said it was the timing belt /tensioners that they wanted to look at.
