vrs... puzzling problems appearing

Featured Replies

Hey...

am hoping to pick up some advice....

I have a 55 skoda vrs, it has just come out of warranty and I am starting to experience some problems (sods law hey..!)

It is sticking in 1st and reverse and I find it very difficult to pull it out when this happens, but it doesnt happen all the time..sometimes it is really hard to put into 1st/reverse.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or does anyone know what it may be?

Thanks :)

could be the synchromesh in the gearbox.

has your car always been serviced at a skoda dealer?

if so, contact SUK and kick up a fuss they might fix it for free as a good will gesture. worth a try.

link adjustment?

clutch drag or hydraulic fault in the master/slave cylinder

that sounds like a clutch prob not gearbox thankfully

Would such a problem be affected by temperature - i.e. *miles* worse on a cold box, but only when it's been sitting overnight in temperatures of less than c. 5oC?

I would change the gearbox oil and check the shift cables first. Clutch should last about 80K depending on driving style and conditions, less in mostly town traffic.

If it doesn't crunch going into 1st, unlikely to be syncro hubs.

Mine only goes into first if the car is completely stationary.

It always crunches going into second but it's miles worse when the box is cold.

When the box is cold, the gear sitck is also really stiff moving from 1st into 2nd.

All these symptoms got *worse* after a gearbox oil change. My dealer's not being at all helpful... :(

Sounds like 1st/2nd syncro hub is shot, probably worn/chipped dog teeth. Quite rare, as if looked after the gearboxes are pretty much bullet proof.

Thanks.

Doesn't seem to be affected by temp...in that it doesn't always do it when or cold or hot.

Skoda garage just dont care.. as it doesn't do it all the time they dont beleive me that anything is wrong!!!

Will post if I ever discover what it is!
