Google maps street view

Featured Replies

I've just come across this, never noticed it before, but it's just amazing

Of course, blighty not being a civilised country, we don't have any UK roads which appear to be mapped, but wonder over to Paris in France for example, and click on the "person" icon at the end of the zoom scale and switch to street view. From there, you can travel along streets.

Quite an impressive feature, and guess it's just a matter of time before this information is available to Sat Navs and other uses :D

I saw them out while driving through Southampton ages ago, but I think they might not be permitted to show this for the UK

I've become somewhat addicted to this mode on Google Maps, for New York. I'm over there next year for a holiday and it's simply superb to be able to do some prep work

Custom Maps, with different placemarkers and additional text is also proving mega-handy. That's also a pretty new feature.

One of the other things that's so impressive, the actual mapping and imagery aside, is that it all works so well within a browser, in near real-time.

Steve

They are currently mapping the UK, the car has also been seen in Watford.

In France, they did there first for the Tour de France route.

If you want to look at a UK one seety - home got there first and already has the main roads in London working.

I Read somewhere that the reason it's not shown in the UK yet because they are trying to find a way to blur the number plates of the vehicles in the pictures. Somthing to do with Data Protection. The vehicles will always be there on the screen but not in real life............I think...mmmmmmmm Just looked at the above link of london and the plates are blurred, must be another reason

I just discovered the flight sim in Google Earth yesterday. It's not bad for a freebe.

Nice find Jeff :)
