Clunk - Clunk!

Featured Replies

When starting off from cold my car clunks when coming both ON and OFF the accelerator .... stops after the first few miles (im guessing due to the clunky part/parts warming up)

Could it be the gearbox or a driveshaft ? Is it dangerous ?

what tipe of clunck is it ? where exactly is it coming from ?...

mine does this :) its the gearbox mount i have been told £15 for full thing from skoda

Sounds like gearbox mount. Simple job on my wife's old fiesta, even I could do it.

Just had mine replaced as it was doing this (and not just cold) and has been great... like a new car... so much less play in mount now which has improved the driveability (must have been pretty bad for me!)

it sounds like its coming from the gearbox somewhere. would it be the gearbox mount that needs changing ? or could it be the engine mounts?

its only happening when comming ON/OFF the power when cold.

It sounds worst if you just poke the accelerator at less than 20mph, then its quite loud. Also changing gear when cold has the same effect

(clutch down = clunk .... clutch up = clunk) !!!

It sounds like a loose joint in the driveshaft :S :confused::confused:

Engine shunt, normally caused by a worn staybar or gearbox mounting.

Wife's gearbox mount was particularly bad in low gears. More torque methinks if that's the right term.
