ASR light

Recommended Posts

i think it uses the ABS sensors, so they might be dirty. Try disconnecting them and cleaning them out, spray in some WD40 or duck fat oil (petrol stations) and see what happens.

though ideally get the vagcome code and it will narrow this down a lot!

As martziniuk said, it seems issues within the intake system can cause the light to come on. Mine came on and off intermittently, at a variety of engine temps and driving conditions, but the ASR still functioned perfectly - took it to a Skoda specialist, they ummed and ahhed and couldn't work out what was wrong. After I cleaned out the throttle body, it hasn't reappeared in 1000 miles. Maybe try that, or disconnect the MAF and see if it still appears. HTH

Thanks

I am going to change the spark plugs, oil, filters anyway this weekend.

The engine is searching and hunting for revs when idling - So it probably is the air sensors MAF. I also have a misfire in cylinder 3 & 4 according to the code reader.

Thanks again

No probs - mine was hunting at idle as well as the ASR light coming on, both disappeared after the TB clean. Well worth doing anyway from time to time, can only help the running, but as you say, could be down to MAF as well. Just as well to do the cheaper one first though imho!
