no battery light on dash fabia 1.9 diesel

dash battery light doesnt light and car doesnt charge put new alternator on still the same. because alternator is ecu controled how can i test the dash light is working and if it isnt would that break the cicuit and stop it charging. and can the alt be fooled into giving out a charge to check if its working thanx had the car a week didnt notice if it was working when i got the car theres so many light that come on its a fabia elegnce 1.9 diesel

Position 1 on the key is lamp test, so if it's not on then, it could be the light. On the other hand, the lack of charging suggests the fault is elsewhere, and I think there have been a couple of mentions of alternator wiring on here recently - a search should help! :thumbup:
