How much would you expect to pay for a reconditioned alternator for a 2.0 TDi140? I've just had to fork out 700 Euros (about £600) for one, including labour, etc. The part itself was about E450, so call it £390 or so.

I take it you had it fitted in france, if so this is about avrige, i worked in france this somer for three months liasing with our members who had brake down cover, and garages , check the bill most garages when fitting an altonator will fit a new belt and tentioner, i did come up against some altonators for saab, honda, jag costing £900 !

OK, thanks, Patrol Man! Yes, they did change the belt, etc. Looks like the going rate, then, with 21/2 hours of labour. Pity I couldn't get it to my usual garage - they generally do me a special rate for both parts and labour. Too far to go on the battery alone.

£900, though... grief.
