Is the suspension on an estate the same as a hatch?

Featured Replies

As the title asks, is the suspension on an estate the same as a hatch? I've got a 1.9TDi estate and am considering uprating the suspension. I don't want to go to the expense of aftermarket stuff (and don't want the car any lower than a standard vRS) but liked the idea of putting standard vRS suspension on it. Any ideas?

Physically its the same and will fit.

However the vRS suspension isnt suitable for anything other than a vRS as the nose weight is about 60kgs heavier IIRC so the front sits higher.

That's quite some difference! I thought the vRS engine and the 1.9TDi 100bhp engine were virtually the same apoart from the turbo and injectors!

What do you think about using vRS dampers with the stock TDi springs?

Dampers and springs would work, although alot of labour considering you could sneak some Eibachs on there and enjoy them.

The weight difference is the 6 Spedd gearbox and its bigger driveshafts, flywheel etc.

This also kinda explains why the drop on the estate was so little I guess, I fitted the Koni FSDs and Eibach springs to the front (not rear) of the estate and it pretty much levelled out. Will be great to see it slammed a bit more :D
