Your ambulance may not be far off either ;)

Slightly better view :-)

Need one of those at Tesco Traffic lights in Chepstow aiming towards Lydney.

This tempted me to do a bit of digging - according to this, peregrine falcons do 0-350mph in 16 seconds (arguably not as good as the US Navy, although seeing how drag at 350mph is over 4x that at 160, it's debateable), but they also do the opposite (350-0mph) in less than 0.9 seconds (18G deceleration), which is waaaaay faster than the strongest arrester wire!

cor blimey.

disagree with the falcon speeds - ~350 km/h not 350 mph :)

In ''In pursuit of the Peregrine'' by R.B. Treleaven it is stated that Prof. Jim Enderson (Colorado Springs University) & Vance Tucker used hi-tech computer systems to measure the velocity of Peregrines in a stoop, and measured a true figure is in excess of 324 kph (201mph.)

Hantge, (1968) timed maximum speeds of 350 kph (220 mph) at a 45 degree angle. Orton (1975) suggests, stooping vertically for 1500 metres, 370 to 386 kph (230 to 240 mph) would be reached

Velocity

he says 157 meters per second is theoretically possible.

Thats nothing ... I suggest you have a look at the late Sammy Miller in his car "Vanishing Point".

I watched him do 0 to 314 mph in 4.2 sec at Santa Pod in 1979 (I think that was the year). He subsequently went much faster and did the strip in 3.58 secs. His record remains unbeaten.

Would have had him in the twisties

That is seriously quick

The video does NOT do justice to the noise - standing on the banking you could feel the pressure wave on your chest !

Also he was almost totally environmentally green !. The rocket used hydrogen peroxide (often used as torpedo fuel as it doesnt burn) which when catalysed produces huge quantities of heat, oxygen and water (as steam) which is where the thrust comes from.:D

Try telling that to the crew of the Kursk! :(

(OK, it doesn't burn, but being a strong oxidising agent, it'll make most other things extremely flammable - and HTP isn't used as fuel in torpedoes anymore, although a factoid in the case of the torpedoes on the Kursk is that it was used to create a 'sheath' of oxygen bubbles around the weapon, which a. greatly increased its speed underwater, and b. made it invisible to active sonar. )

I must have been standing behind you.

Every day is a school day - thanks for that :)

I looked it up, his unbeaten record at Santa Pod in the Vanishing Point funny car is 0 to 386mph in 3.54 secs.
