Traffic problems possible solution?

Featured Replies

I think I have worked out our nations traffic problems, Its just the amount of traffic or the roads it is some of the drivers on them.

Every day I travel on the A10 towards Cambridge, then back again in the evening, past Ely. This run should only take about 20- 25 mins, but the problem is at the roundabouts, hardly anyone seems to indicate off at their exit. This makes the other people waiting to enter the roundabout hesitate, therefore causing a hold up.

The other problem is the idiots (like one tonight in a Skoda Octy A*** BTF) who got to a top speed of 36MPH in a 60!!!

They need to get more traffic police out on the roads, at roundabouts ect. and seize the licence of anyone who fails to indicate, drive ridiculously slow, and for that matter the should also do the people who drive with front fog lights on (when there's no fog)

Sorry for the rant, (well I believe I would make a good prime minister)!!!

not been near the MoD base again have we........

Past it slowly - very slowly

You are of course 100% right on the non-indicating at roundabouts but there are other things too..........

For instance, how many junctions do you come to that have two lanes leading to them and one turns to be a right or left only filter but isnt marked until 10 yards before the junction? People then have to move lane at last minute causing congestion-solution paint the filter markings several times much further up the road.

:iagree:

Nope, what you need is me, 28 yrs driving experience and hands on solutions not map planing, never happen as I'm not a jolly boy, I think I could unblock my town in 12 mths plus roadwork time, reduce co2 and road rage, but that's not what #10 wants, they want the roads to themselves and you to tip your hat as they drive by.

paint the filter markings several times much further up the road.

Have had twunts cut me up at the last minute (the one in the third lane wanting to be in the first lane going left springs to mind) - even when there's a big road sign and two lots of advance road markings showing which lane goes where.

paint the filter markings several times much further up the road.

I was heading to the NIA in Birmingham the other day, and for someone who doesn't know the local roads it's hellish for that very reason. If you're heading from Coventry Rd towards Paradise Island in heavy traffic you can't actually see which of the four lanes you're meant to be in on account of all the ruddy cars! :)

all roundabouts should have a sign up about 200-300 yds before showing the drivers which lane to be in, seen it starting to appear here and there and is useful if you dont know the area so you can get into the right lane straight away as some left lanes are for left only and some right lanes are for right only instead of straight over etc.

And use it on anyone who turns right from a left hand lane on roundabouts when its not marked to do that, and also on anyone who turns right and then hacks across on the exit from roundabouts that do allow left lane right turn:mad:

all roundabouts should have a sign up about 200-300 yds before showing the drivers which lane to be in,

There's a great one in Leicester where the sign befire a roundabout saying GET IN LANE (with a helpful lane diagram) is actually 10 yards in front of the sign that tells you where each exit goes and covering it up for approaching traffic.. so you may well get in A lane but you have no way of seeing if it's the right one until it's too late :)

But if these signs were implemented correctly they would.

We have a spiral roundabout in Edinburgh which has recently been widened to add more lanes, in theory if you enter the roundabout in the correct lane and follow the obvious lines you will be delivered to the exit without ever having to change lane.

Unfortunately a large proportion of the population cannot follow a simple lane and cross over into the next lane oblivious then cross back as they approach their exit. The concept of "going around" a roundabout being lost on them completely.

I have found a more exciting way of dealing with poor driving: BetterDrivingPlease - Help Make Our Roads a Safer Place, report reckless and dangerous drivers

Introduce a minimum speed on each road like in Europe. No lorry over taking in peak times/hills

On the subject of roundabouts. I was always taught, if everyone positioned themselves correctly, then you shouldnt need indicators due to the 'rules' of using them!
