Advice needed

Hi, I'm planning on putting a sub box and amp in the boot, (only cause I have it sitting doing nothing) I only have the car for 6 months though so don't want to pee about too much installing it properly.

The idea is to power it through the cig lighter, (I have tried it and it does work) then just throw the lead through the ski hatch when I park up.

Where can I take my speaker wires from? I have a link lead and plug made up to be able to run a flying lead from a rear door bass speaker, but can't find any screws on the bottom of the door card, does it just pull away on clips? I shouldn't need to remove the whole card, as I only need to unplug the speaker loom, plug into my lead, then plug my lead back into the door speaker.

It might work through the lighter socket, but if your amp takes more than 120W in in total (12v @ 10A) then you will blow the fuse. Replacing the fuse with a higher rated one will probably cause a wire to burn out and potentially a fire.

All bad.

If you want to run it, just get it done properly. No point spending lots on a set up and then ruining it all by cheap fitting.

Also why do you need a sub for the carpark?

It's not an expensive set up.

Carpark???? I think you missunderstand me!

I don't need a sub for the carpark, I meant when I leave the car unattended, I don't leave a wire trailing from the cig lighter into the boot. Advertising the fact that there is something worth nicking in there!

As previously mentioned, i'd be seriously concerned about putting too much current though the ciggy lighter. (basically to use a metaphor, you could be trying to park 2 cars side-by-side in a single width garage...it's not going to be pretty if it goes wrong:thumbdwn:)

If you want more bass and aren't really concerned about the electrical consequences, buy some cheap house speakers from richer sounds, and splice into the rear speaker loop(s).

That also has issues in it's own right as the impedance of the speakers will be incorrect and will potentially damage the head unit - however - this would be the lesser of 2 evils as i'd rather have a dead had unit than a torched car

Ta,

MPM :D

If the fuse blew then I wouldn't replace it with a higher rate one. As I have already stated I have tried it out already and it does work, and also as stated it will be unplugged on leaving the car, so no worries there.

Where can I splice into the rear speaker looms though? As I can't find any screws around the bottom of the door cards, are screws only fitted to the front doors?

If I just pull the bottom of the door card will it come away giving me enough access to the bass speaker, or will I need to remove the tweeter etc. first?
