Tyre Pressure? and Km/h display

Featured Replies

The tyre presures for the road tyres are detailed in the fuel filler cap, however in the manual it refers to the tyre pressure of the emergency spare wheel R18 as 4.2 bar, that is 61 psi!

I am unsure of the R18 signifcance, but 61 psi sounds very high, any comments from other owners?

The standard 225/40 18 inch tyres should be just over 30 psi by comparison.

On the MFD there is a Km/h speed display, the manual says you can switch this off in the MFD menu, Option "Second Speed" or using the button to the left of the tachometer, also for time adjustment. The button only affect the time setting and the MFD option is not in the menu. My dealer has spoken to SUK who say you have to have dual speed display! and cannot turn it off. Does anyone know a way to remove thsi useless information.

You have to have an indication of your speed in both MPH and KPH visible at all times.

I'm not sure about the emergency spare wheel but I reckon those skinny little ones would run at a much higher pressure but I do agree 61psi sounds like an awful lot.

61 psi is correct. Its the same on my current car,Focus St, which has the 125 section space saver tyre

PowerMalc, I would agree if the spare was a space saver, it is a standard 205/55 on a 16" wheel, V rated! Although it is a differnet profile to the other tyres it seems odd that the pressure should be about double of the other tyres.

I'd say odd tyre pressures are the least of your problems!

If I understand correctly your road tyres are 225x40R18 but the spare is 205x55R16?

That simply doesn't sound right at all? I'd have though that would fail an MOT at the very least? Personally I'd have chat with the supplying dealer as mismatched wheels/tyres on a brand new motor sounds a bit like someone has been having a dabble to me.

The 4.2 bar in the manual refers to a space saver as most Superbs seem to be coming with them. I'm guessing you ordered the no cost option of a proper road wheel but Skoda hasn't accounted for that in the manual - the clue is in the name - the emergency spare wheel - yours isn't, its a full road wheel (sort of!) . Just over 30psi sounds far more likely - but mismatched wheels/tyres sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ever have the misfortune to need it.

Edit. If you didn't order a full wheel in place of a space saver I would guess that the dealership lifted your space saver for another customer and put in a full wheel in it's place but not having the correct wheel got as close as they could with wheel/tyre combination. If they really are mismatched (and I haven't misunderstood your original posts) you should go back to the dealer.

GazzaC - no offence but you are way off the mark here. there is another thread discussing the whole spare wheel issue. the 16" wheel is correct. many cars come with this option as its what is fitted on the base spec model (in this case the "S" model"). the rolling radius of a 205/55/16 is the same as that of a 225/40/18 (do the maths and you we see the variation is about 0.5%). running with mismatched wheels on a temporary basis after a puncture is not really an issue. it is not unique to skoda - you will find many other cars with this set up.

the only debate at the moment is the "have i got what i ordered" debate as the brochure has been changed and some of us who order 2/3 months ago order a car based in brouchure ver1 and are getting cars based on brochure ver2. some of the options are different including the wheel.

Fair enough :) I've never had a car with mismatched wheels/tyres although I'm sure there a point to it?

If the owner cannot use the spare as a proper wheel/tyre then I wonder what the point is of having one, I got the point about the rolling circumference I just couldn't believe that any manufacturer would deliberately supply mismatched wheels! Guess my next car will have to be the Bentley after all!

Others beware, with more careful reading of the very inaccurate manual I see that the 61psi is for the emergency wheel R18! not the R16.

There is no indication of tyre pressure for the 205/55 R16 spare, Customer services are checking with the Technical Department and will get back to em. Watch this space.

its a standard 205/55/16 V rated tyre. stick 30psi in it and forget about it !! (look in the superb manual for tyre pressure ratings for the S model - this has the same tyres on it so this will be fine !)

back to the kph display - I think it's because if you look at the dial - there is no kph on there in smaller font like you normally see. you would need this if you took car abroad, but yes I agree -seems useless in the uk, and wasn't aware it was a legal requirement.

If you look inside the fuel filler flap you will see that pressures are given for the 205/55/16V ratgded yres, which are also fitted to certain models.
