Can anyone suggest anything,this car is driving me crazy!

I bought my mum an X reg Octy TDI estate with engine damage.The car had the manifold cleaned with jizer,then when started up,the car did about 10,000 rpm for a few mins and then bent all its con rods and stopped.

Now.....fully rebuilt with new con rods,pistons etc.New belt/pullies fitted and timed correctly.All valves lapped in and seals replaced.Problem is now that it just wont tick over.

Compressions 400 per pot constant.

Very little exhaust smoke.

Appears to run a little rough with a bit of popping in the egr valve before stalling.

Had new fuel filters etc.

I've subbed the VE pump,no change.

Set of injectors for a Bora set,known good,no change.

Crank sensor,no good.

Timing checked again and again and is spot on.

Tried to advance and retard pump a little and it made no difference.

Some bubbles in fuel line but less than the missus' Bora.:confused:

Question is,can I swap ecu's with 1999 Bora just to try?

Also pedal potentionometer?

No faults logged,but how do you reset the ecu to base settings?

I can't get Vag-com unfortunatly.

I've disconnected the MAF,no change,undone front pipe thinging maybe exhaust was blocked,no change.

Am I missing something?Any other ideas to try would be much appreciated!!!

You really need VAG-COM.

Could it be immobiliser? How long doe sit run before stopping?

You can't fit another ECU without coding to the dash/immobiliser.

The key light goes out,plus there is 12 volts to the solenoid valve on the VE pump.

You can keep the sod running no problem by holding the pedal down a touch and raising the rpm.It will tick over,showing 800 rpm but feels slower,but if you put any load ie try to turn the wheel,the engine slowa and cuts out.Wierd!

If you hold the idle speed at 950 do you get any of these problems?

It could be that the idle speed is set too low for some reason. VAG-com would be a real help here.

Thanks for all replies,put another engine in and its fine now.

On strip down of old engine,found bottom of bores on 3 and 4 were cracked but could not see from under car.

Hope this is helpful for someone who's car runs away with itself!
