A few faults on 2006 Octavia 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi - I collected picked up my new 2006 1.9 4x4 last week and this is my first post. So far I love the car but there are a few problems:

1) There is a nasty noise that sounds like a worn out wheel bearing when I go above about 35 mph. I think it is noise from uneven tyre wear so I'm going to change the tyres. Falken's seem popular on here so I might try them. The tyres fitted are Goodyear Eagle F1 (215 55 ZR16) which are the wrong size anyway. I want tryes that are quiet and return good mpg, handle decently and if possible give light steering. Will the Falkens be OK?

2) The central locking is crazy - it keeps intermittanly locking and unlocking repeatedly while driving , sometimes it locks and unlocks several times in a few second (not just when driving of) - any ideas what this could be?

3) Is there any way to get the steering to be lighter? My last car was an Audi A6 which had nice light steering .I have repetitive strain injury which means heavy steering hurts after a while. I'm sure the steering is how it should be but I would prefer it a bit lighter. I've read somewhere that steering can be adjusted with vag-com, if this is so can a dealer do it?

Thanks is advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'm guessing that the car wasnt bought from a dealer cos if it was you would be taking it straight back...............

Not from a Skoda dealer but it is going back in the new year to see if the central locking can be sorted. I'm not very happy about the tyres but because they a not dangerous just noisy they won't do anything about them.
