Fabia vRS towing weight

Featured Replies

Hello,

This is my first posting, so I hope that I've got it in the correct section.

I've spotted a Fabia vRS 1.9TDi 130 that I like the look of, but I can't find

any details of its maximum towing weights. Could anyone help?

Regards,

Russ

I believe there is something from Skoda which basically says the fabia vRS is unsuitable to have a tow bar fitted at all, and therefore there is no official towing weight guide.

However, people have fitted towbars, so it can be done. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable towing anything in excess of the weight of the car itself, i.e 1.3 tons.

The VRS cannot legally be fitted with a towbar. Like Jason says, some have done this anyhow, but if you do, make sure you are aware at how your insurance cover is in an ancident with something on tow - could be nasty and expensive.

My Combi 1.9 PD100 is rated here in denmark to 1000kg with brakes, and 450kg w/o brakes.

Should the vRS be used for towing I don't think it should be allowed to tow much more than the PD100 TDI. :) Officially though, the towing weight is 0.000 tons. :D

IIRC isnt it measured in relation to the weight of the car anyway?.. so it would be the same as the TDI (ok, noones picky over 60kg lol)

yeah - was kinda thinking they were similar, but the TDI has had a little more success with the slimfast. Not sure how much braking power, etc comes into it, when the ratings are drawn up by the manufacturer?

Does anybody know what the reason is for the vRS being deemed unsuitable for towing is?

The same reason as Porch 911 is not suitable.

I think the main reason was that the official towbar does not fit with the sports bumper in place without modification to either. As it does not fit, it cannot be rated.

Is that because it is attached to the front of a house?:)

According to Witter:

Fabia 5 door Hatchback VRS model only 03-07 Vehicle Not Homologated for Towing

From here:Witter Towbars - Witter Towbar Price List

You will need to search for Skoda Fabia.

Basically I would say as it was a niche/low production volume model, Skoda did not think that it was worth the expense to get it homologated for towing.

Roo is bang on, although only a tiny cut under the bumper is needed for the Skoda bar to be fitted :)

Main reason is it has never type tested for towbar suitability or safety and vag therefore wont approve it for fitting or use of a towbar.....so basically...fit one and use it...but be aware your insurance for the car and whatever you tow will be invalid........unless you can find find a towbar manufacturuer who will back up and insure it

WTF! I has hoping to get a detachable towbar for mine!

Personally, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest that it wasn't type approved for the occasional towing of a small trailer etc. But you do need to clarify the matter with your insurance company first.

Cheers all for the answers, i'm not planning/needing to fit one for towing anyway, i was just curious why it would be unsuitable/illegal to do so with the vRS but not any other model of Fabia.

Thanks again.

It's a bummer aint it. I only found this out after I bought the car. My own fault I suppose!!
