Fabia vRS coolant warning

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have an 05 Fabia vRS - everything great, but during cold weather coolant warning light and audible alarm comes on when ignition is turned. This stays on, but if I turn off ignition (once engine has warmed up a bit) and restart the alarm doesn't come on....

Coolant level is fine, and took it to local Skoda dealer for them to check it over, and they can find nothing wrong.

Anybody any ideas, as it's a bit un-nerving.

Thanks.

This is a common problem on VAG engines and happens even when the coolant level is fine.

If you open the coolant bottle and look inside you will see a metal sensor going into the fluid. IIRC it is split into two like a fork. These just need a gently scrape with a flat head screw driver to clear them of any muck and grime, and the problem should go away.

I had this issue last year with my Seat Leon, and after scraping the metal it never did it again.

Hi

I would say it is the expansion tank

Very very common fault

Have a search for it

The prongs in the tank are renown for failing and giving false readings

A little clean should sort it, if not, a new expansion tank is easy enough to fit yourself and very cheap, just need to use the right stuff to top up the fluid levels afterwards :)

If your car is due a service anytime soon it may be worth asking how much they'd charge for doing it at the same time :)

I've got this problem. Will give the cleaning idea ago. If not job for the dealers at the next service.

I can hear the distant 'mews' of another kitten being throttled.......:D
