Missing Gear Box Cap?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just after some help please. I went out to fill up my windscreen washers today and noticed some oil residue under my Oil Catch can, upon inspection i found the screw under the catch can had vibrated loose and went missing, now though i have found a potentially bigger problem, whilst inspecting to see where in the engine the oil had got too, i found a Circular hole through which i could see cogs!!!!!!! it appears to be the Gearbox, am i correct in thinking there should definately be a cap there and it is for filling of gearbox oil? For all i know i could have been driving with it like that for Several months since having some work done on the transmission area by Jabbasport, im not accusing them of leaving the cap off or anything, perhaps it just vibrated loose, but that was the only time anything has been done in the transmission area. Is there anything available such as Gearbox flush so i can clean the box out before re-filling with oil and where can i buy a gearbox oil cap from? Cheers very much in advance.

The hole appears to be located on the housing for the flywheel, and i have been informed that there is supposed to be an opening there for inspection and that a cap is not required is it possible for anyone else to confirm this?

yes , normal , it is used for checking the timing off the flywheel iirc
