Frozen Twindoor

Featured Replies

The boot lid on my Superb II refuses to open manually using the handle and I have to use the key to force it to open. The twindoor obviously can't be opened in such situation as either boot lid handles don't respond. This happens even if there is no visible frost/snow around the boot. The happens consistently on days with near subzero temprature. It works fine on warm sunny days.

Anyone else seen the same behaviour? Is this expected?

I very much doubt this is to be expected, I would be asking the dealer to check it out ASAP

I would expect it to work below freezing and ours certainly does.

We were using both parts of our Twindoor last week, when the temperature (as indicated by the car) was around -10C.

my boot lid doesnt lift using the button on the remote when its cold (it does say in the manual below 4 deg C it might not lift). but i can lift the boot and twindoor OK.

We've got 2 of them. On mine, I use the Twindoor feature a lot (constantly lugging stuff in and out of the boot), and never have any problems with it. The other owner rarely uses it (maybe once every two weeks), but when they do, they have problems opening the boot, and it seems to "stick". I suspect it's something to do with the seals that Skoda have used, but my advice (for what it's worth) is to make sure you open the twindoor once in a while to make sure it releases ok.

You could always spray some silicone round the seals, not a 'proper' fix but might help in the short term!

Rather than Silicone spray, try using Talcum Powder/ Baby Powder; it won't attract as much dirt a "wet" Silicone spray.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll have to wait for another bout of arctic chill to descend so I can reproduce the issue. Had a chat with the dealer and he hasn't heard anyone else complaining of the same.
