225 tyres

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of changing my wheels on my Fabia Vrs for some 7.5 x 17 audi ones. The reason being that I want more grip. The standard tyres on these wheels are 225 wide but when I've done a search I haven't found anyone who has put tese width tyres on. I think the nearest correct profil would be 225/35/17.

My question is, does anyone know if these will cause a problem with rubbing the wheel arches. I'm also thinking of lowering the car, again if anyone has experience with that profile tyre, how big a drop will be possible without wheel arch mods.

Many thanks,

Mike

215-40 max

225's are too wide yes.

I ran 225's on my TT wheels to my mates garage to get the tyres changed.

The rubbing was very bad.

May also have an issue with catching the strut?

I was -75mm at the time though.

With 215's 0r 205's on a 7.5" rim you will be able to go as low as you want really without needing to do any arch work, the tuck will be fine.

This being the case only if the Audi wheels are 5x100 fitment.

If they are 5x112 you will need to run adaptors and you will have scrubbage issues.

I ran my 17x7.5" Audi TT wheels with 205/40's on them and had no issues with scrubbing with my drop.

Currently on 17x7" with the same tyres and have no bother.

The Anteras on the other hand.....

Were they the original TT tyres cos they would be far too big, the tyre calculator brings 225/35/17 as the closest rolling diameter to the original vrs wheels.

Has anyone tried this profile of tyre on their Fabia? I know I'm asking again after people have already given me answers but I really wanted the wider tyres on the car, in fact it's the main reason for changing the wheels.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Yes origional Audi TT wheels.

No they were not too big.

What do you class as too big?

The tyres that came on them were 225's and i downgraded to 215's as ive said.

Try 225/35's if you want.

You'll have scrubbage.

I meant were they the 225/45/17 TYRES that the wheels originally came with, they obviously were too big as you said they were scrubbing. The 45 height part combined with 225 width would mean that the wheel and tyre would be far too big for the Fabia. What I wanted to know is has anyone tried the profile that I've suggested or not. Thanks for your help though.

Rather than start another tyre thread I thought I would drag this one back up.

225/40's - does anyone know if they will the fit with standard 16 inch vRS alloys on a non lowered car, or will they rub?

Thanks
