refitting alternator

Featured Replies

hi, I'm looking for anyone who has successfully refitted the alternator in an octavia 1.8.

I've followed the haynes manual and removed the 2 mounting bolts, disconnected the electrical wires, but it refuses to budge. Is there a hidden bolt, perhaps?

No ideas beyond WD40 and hammer at the moment.

Cheers

I've just changed the alternator in my 1.9Tdi, and its probably very similar, its a pain in the ar*e to do, they are mounted with sliding threaded bushes, that move in and grip on the mount when the bolts are tightened, to free mine up, I blathered the back end of the alternator in wd-40, then put the bolts back in about 4 turns, then tapped on the bolt heads with a small hammer, a few taps were enough to move the bushes back a bit, and it became loose, the other alternative is to use a big screwdriver as a lever against the bottom of the engine block to move it and give it a wiggle to free it up.

Good Luck

Cheers
