Can anyone enlighten me please?

I have managed to get the new release cable into the passenger footwell side after my cable snapped (it snapped as I opened the bonnet)

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the cable off the catch inside.

Haynes says to unhook it and on the forums someone says to knock out the rivet.

Surely there must be a simpler way.

I can see the nipple of the cable follows a grove into a recese but how to get the nipple over the catch stumps me.

It doesn't look like the gap is big enough for it to come over the top.

Can't take off the lever as it is welded onto the body.

Any help please?

Just for any one else doing this.

I ended up grinding one end of the rivet off and was going to replace with another rivet but I only have 5mm rivets which are too small.

I ended up using a machine thread nut and bolt to do its job.

Everything seems ok and holding.
