Hello from newbie

Featured Replies

Hi. Thought i might join the forum and see whats around. I am a member of another forum (boxer rescue), but not transport!. I found this by accident actually when I entered a search for details on changing a wheel bearing myself.

So, although i know its rude to ask for help on first visit, but cannot find any hints/ideas on how hard this is etc and if any special tools are required, so if any of you could shed any light on my query, i would much appreciate it. I have an Octavia 1.9 estate and have a whirling/whining noise, i have been advised its a wheel bearing and cannot afford the garage charges to get this fixed.

My hubby is willing to give it a go and try and do ths for me, but i dont want to let him start if its too much for him (not mechanically minded to an extended degree).

thanks in advance and I will certainly post this forum in my favourites.

Hi, welcome along to the site.

Changeing a wheel bearing is not the easyest of jobs and shouldnt really be dont by someone with no knowlage.

You will need to strip it down and press it in and out.

You will probably need some heat to get parts of the bearing off the hub aswell.

If it is the front bearing you are talking about anyway.

If you post in the relevent section you may get more response about your question.

Welcome :)

As has been said, it's not the easiest of jobs. You don't need any special tools (although they can help) but you do need some knowledge.

welcome along
