Need Advice With Mirrors Switch + Other Things

Featured Replies

Hi,

New to the forums, just got my 1999 Skoda Octavia SLXi Auto today. Bought it second hand and have a couple of issues that need to be ironed out, so with your help hopefully will be pointed in the right direction.

Ok, first up, it seems the joystick control for the electric mirrors has been broken off, does anyone know a good, cheap place to get a new one?

Secondly, when I push the rear heated window switch in, it stays in, in fact if I prise it out it stays on regardless if the switch is in or out, are these easy to replace and where do I get one?

Additionally the offside read door central locking doesnt seem to work, is it a case of pulling the door apart to look at it?

Cheers

Jon

It may be best to get the joystick (and panel) from a dealer. Every time I've tried to get one from elsewhere, the clips have been broken. Interestingly, the joystick usually gets broken when someone is trying to push the car.

The rear heated window switch often jams. Try pushing the switch in and out again and see if it goes off. If it does the switch is OK. Check the bezel around the switches/radio/heater is on properly. If you remove the bezel you can shave a bit off the edge of the switch so it doesn't stick anymore.

My guess is the control box which is an integral part of the window motor has failed. It could be bad wiring or a lock mechanism, but the above is more likely

Thanks for the info, will look into the switch(both of them) and will have to take a closer look at the rear door.

Would anyone happen to know where I might find somewhere online selling the electric mirror joystick?

No, they didn't have one, can't find any anywhere :(

Only need the switch :(

Note that different ages of Octy seem to have a different config for the mirror switch. Mine is:

L

L+R

heated

Pretty sure I got a spare one from a scrap yard - might be worth a look if you have one locally, otherwise it might have to be a trip to the dealer.

Yeah might have to :)

Did you have any luck in finding a replacement?

I'm looking for one too for my 1998 octy, part number 1U2959565E

Been quoted £40 from the dealers for a replacement, or £15 from Skospares for a replacment but ending in A. Not sure if they are interchangeable :(

For info:

1U2959565E = R, 0, L

1U2959565A = R, HEAT, L

Nice man at skospares.. :)
