RAC Code scanner in Argos will it work on my car

Featured Replies

I am thinking of getting an RAC Code scanner from argos for £128 but it want to know if it will work on my car, The description says OBD2 and CAN Compliant but says its for cars from 2001, but it also says that it may work on earlier models.

My car is a 1998 MK1 Skoda Octavia 1.6 8V Petrol. and has the same diagnostic socket that apears to fit this RAC scanner.

Is the MK1 octavia OBD 2 :D

Thanks

Wondering the same for a Y reg 2001 fabia please.

Yes it will fit (the socket is a standard design), and yes it will work to read fault codes, at least. But unless it has an adaptation function, I doubt it would offer more than the GBP30 fleabay job I have in the glovebox of mine.

Do you have a laptop? A copy of VCDS (VAG-COM) + genuine connector wouldn't set you back much more than that, and you can do far more with that than you ever could with a hand-held scanner..

Does the MK1 Octy though use OBD1 and Not OBD 2 just wondered if it makes a difference

My brain is hurting

You can get a VAG5053 for about £70 if you really want a standalone unit. It does almost everything that VAG-Com can.

where can you buy this from mate

For that you could get a proper VAG com which does much more than scan fault codes.

If you just want to scan codes get a VAG COM serial>usb lead off ebay for £20 and use the shareware thats what I do
